Netflix is an American company established back in 1997 which has been the leading provider of flat rate postal DVD rental and online film streaming services in the US ever since. Essentially Netflix have been providing residents of the US the same service that us here in the UK have been receiving from Lovefilm.

Well now Netflix have come to the UK. Netflix launched in the United Kingdom in January 2012. Although originally a postal DVD rental service, Netflix are only offering their online steaming service over this side of the pond. The service offers online streaming of both TV shows and films. The service it offers is in direct competition to that offered by both iTunes and Lovefilm. The Netflix streaming service is available on a range of devices with more to be announced in the future.

For that, members have full access to all the Netflix content for streaming, plus the ability to access the service through different devices ranging from TVs to video games consoles.Netflix

The type of content offered through the service is a mixture of films and TV shows. These range from many of the old classic films to the most up-to-date TV shows such as Spooks. There are also some great American TV shows available such as Arrested Development, Breaking Bad and the popular Heroes. If these don’t appeal there are many more from the wide selection on offer. There is also a superb selection of children’s programmes available. And when using certain devices, the service can be fused into a channel designed specifically for children to browse. You are also able to put in place age restrictions to ensure they can’t accidently come across any unsuitable content.

The Films Netflix have available are varied, although their latest titles are likely to be one or two years old. Those of us looking for the very latest blockbusters will have to look to other providers and pay a premium for this content.
