The odds against winning a Lotto jackpot

The National Lottery renamed their main draw Lotto in 2002 as part of a major rebranding exercise aimed at increasing ticket sales that had previously been flagging.

Camelot, the operators of the National Lottery who were awarded the licence for a second time in 2001 were keen to improve sales to ensure they kept the licence.

The games available through Camelot are still collectively known as The National Lottery and are one of the most popular forms of gambling in the UK with over 80% of the population participating

Here is a table of the odds against winning a prize in the UK’s National Lottery Lotto game.

Winning Combinations:
Winning Odds:
Jackpot – Match 6 numbers
13,983,815 to 1
Match 5 numbers Plus Bonus Ball
2,330,635 to 1
Match 5 numbers
55,490 to 1
Match 4 numbers
1,031.4 to 1
Match 3 numbers
55.656 to 1

The overall odds against winning any prize are 52.655 to 1. These don’t compare too favourably with the odds against winning a prize in the EuroMillions game of 1 in 13. But when you compare the odds against winning the jackpot, the Lotto odds of 1 in 14 million don’t look too bad when compared to the 1 in 116 million for EuroMillions.

The reason that there is a far greater chance of winning any prize with EuroMillions compared to Lotto, is because EuroMillions has 13 different winning selections against only 5 lotto ones.

These odds aren’t great but can be drastically reduced by having more entries into the Lotto draw. Great advice I hear you say, but what if I can’t afford more entries. Well that’s where we can help. Stats about the National Lottery’s Lotto game

The UK’s National Lottery Lotto draw started in November 1994. Originally just called the National Lottery, the format is to select 6 numbers from a possible 49. Six balls are drawn plus a bonus ball. Prizes are won for matching 3 balls, 4 balls, 5 balls, 5 balls plus the bonus ball and the jackpot is won by those matching all 6 balls.

In 2002 after a major rebranding exercise, The National Lottery renamed its main draw Lotto.

Originally there was only one draw each week that took place on a Saturday. Since then a Wednesday draw has been added. Generally, not taking into account rollovers, the Wednesday draw attracts fewer players and subsequently has smaller jackpots. With the odds remaining the same for both the Saturday and Wednesday draws, players who only want to play in one draw each week tend to go for the Saturday draw to be in with a chance of winning a bigger jackpot prize.

At the time of writing, the largest ever Lotto jackpot was £42,008,610. This was the jackpot for the Lotto draw on the 6 January 1996. The winnings were split between three tickets winning each ticket holder just over £14 million.

The chances of winning a Lotto jackpot are 13,983,815 to 1

The chances of winning with Lotto Plus 5

Lotto Plus 5 was introduced by The National Lottery in February 2011 as a game designed to fill the gaps between the Wednesday and Saturday Lotto draws.

To enter, players have to buy a ticket for either the Wednesday or Saturday Lotto draw and pay an additional £1. The extra £1 enters the same ticket numbers into an additional 5 extra draws. These draws that take place on the days of the week that the Lotto draw doesn’t take place have fixed prizes, with the jackpot prize being £250,000.

This new game produces approximately 500,000 additional Lotto winners each week

Here is a table showing the winning combinations, there prizes and their odds against winning.

Winning Combinations:
Winning Odds:
Jackpot – Match 6 numbers
13,983,815 to 1
Match 5 numbers Plus Bonus Ball
2,330,635 to 1
Match 5 numbers
55,490 to 1
Match 4 numbers
1,031.4 to 1
Match 3 numbers
55.656 to 1

The odds against winning any prize in a particular draw remain the same as with the Lotto draw, 52.65514 to 1. But as you get 5 draws for each ticket, the overall odds of winning a prize on in one of the 5 draws goes down to 10.13855 to 1.

As with any lottery, these odds can be drastically reduced by having more entries. Great advice I hear you say, but what if I can’t afford more entries. Well that’s where we can help. How to win with Lotto Plus 5

Lotto Plus 5 was introduced by The National Lottery in February 2011 as a game designed to fill the gaps between the Wednesday and Saturday Lotto draws. The Lotto Plus 5 draws take place every day of the week except Wednesday and Saturday when the Lotto draw is made.

To enter, players have to buy a ticket for either the Wednesday or Saturday Lotto draw and pay an additional £1. To play, you select 6 numbers from a possible 49. Match them all and you win the jackpot, or a share of it if others also have the same numbers. As well as the six main numbers, a ‘bonus ball’ number is drawn. The bonus number only comes into effect for those players who only match 5 of the 6 main numbers. A player who can match 5 of the 6 main numbers and whose sixth number is the same as the bonus ball wins the second largest prize. Prizes are also paid out to anyone matching just 3, 4 or 5 of the main numbers. Overall, the odds of winning one of the prizes are 1 in 54. The odds of winning the jackpot however are almost 1 in 14 million. The extra £1 enters the same ticket numbers into an additional 5 extra draws. These draws, that take place on the days of the week that the Lotto draw doesn’t take place, have fixed prizes, with the jackpot prize being £250,000. You cannot buy a ticket for Lotto Plus 5 on its own. Tickets can only be purchased as an add-on to a Lotto ticket.

This new game produces approximately 500,000 additional Lotto winners each week and has proved very popular with lottery players.

Whilst the odds remain the same as the odds for the Lotto draw, the fact that there are 5 draws in which you can win and not one make it quite an appealing game.

Tips To Enjoy The Popular Sport Of Fishing

Whether your cast is not the way you want it to be or you cannot find fish, it is helpful to learn what you can to improve your experience. If you are looking for a fun experience while catching lots of fish, continue on below for some great fishing tips.

Assure your picture-taking session go as fast as you can. One of the most rewarding things you can do when catch-and-release fishing is to photograph your trophy. Make time out of water as short as you can. A fish's chances of survival drop dramatically the longer it is forced to remain above the water.

Whether you're new when it comes to fishing, or have been fishing for a while, it's always good to approach the experience with a positive mindset. While frustration is common, having a bad attitude will ruin your entire trip. Stay happy and remember that it's the whole experience which makes fishing worthwhile.

Fly fish when there is little to no wind. Casting won't have as much accuracy on a windy day. There is less wind in the early morning and evening hours, making these times better for fly fishing. You can try fishing with the wind against your back if it gets a bit too windy.

Don't forget to carry extra water and food when you fish, particularly during the summer. Staying under the hot sun all day will sap your energy, and the additional food and water will help you refuel and stay in top condition throughout the day. Include some snacks and several meals if you're planning on being out all day.

No bait works optimally for every fish species. Therefore, to achieve the best results, it is important to know how and when to use each type of bait. An example of this is using a jig in murky water that uses its motion to attract the eye of a lurking fish. Colorful plastic bait worms are best for clear water where they are visible.

Safety must come first although you do want your child to have a fun experience fishing. Don't allow young children to bait their own hooks. Allow them to watch you bait the hook while explaining that hooks are dangerous.

Not every fish that is caught is meant to be kept. If you land smaller fish, or an abundance of larger fish, you should consider releasing them back into the water. Controlling the amount you take from a source will help ensure fish for later seasons.

It can help to know the best water temperature for the type of fish you are after. Different types of fish will be out and about in different weather conditions. If you are looking to catch a specific type of fish, this information is essential. Plan your fishing trips for days when the water temperature will be conducive to your fish. This will make for more successful and enjoyable fishing.

Even if it's not a hot day, you should always bring sunscreen on your fishing trips. Many times the sun beams down hard over water and you want to make sure that you do not get a pretty bad sunburn while you are out there.

If you practice catch and release but want to remember the fish you catch, consider taking a camera with you. That keeps the fish alive and your reputation intact.

Weather should be taken into account prior to leaving on a fishing trip. If you go out on the open water when a storm is brewing, the results could be disastrous. Before you go fishing, be sure to check the weather to help you pick the best time and place.

Learn the proper way to clean the fish. You need a cutting board and a knife. Make a cut along the belly, starting near the head. Cut and hold the head while pulling the organs away the other way. The result is a fish that is ready to filet.

The suggestions in this article will help you catch more fish. Your family will appreciate the time and effort you spend in bringing home a delicious, fresh caught meal. Everything you have learned here will help your confidence, and it will also make you become a better fisherman, so remember to use this knowledge in catching some fish!

The chances of winning Lotto HotPicks

Lotto HotPicks was newly introduced by The National Lottery in February 2011. It is really 5 games in one which you will understand once you know how it works.

Using the main Lotto draw numbers, a player selects how many of the drawn numbers they want to ‘pick’. If a player chooses to ‘pick’ 3 numbers, they would select 3 numbers from the Lotto pool of numbers from 1 to 49. For that ticket to win all three of their numbers would have had to be drawn in the Lotto draw. There is no prize in Lotto HotPicks for matching any less than all the numbers you ‘pick’.

Obviously the more numbers you ‘pick’ the greater the potential prize.

The table below shows you the prizes given for matching each ‘pick’ and the odds against you doing so.

The most convenient way to buy tickets for Lotto HotPicks is to open an account with the National Lottery and buy your tickets online. Not only is it easy, but you can set up a ticket that will play for 8 continuous weeks. You will then receive a reminder to tell you when your ticket is expiring and prompting you to get a new one. That mean you never have to miss a draw again. If you’re not sure which numbers to select, you can choose a lucky dip, or, if you like a little bit more control than that, why not let our Lotto Number Generator chose the numbers for you. If you don’t like what it throws up, simply try again. The National Lottery will call off funds from your bank account monthly to pay for your tickets and thereafter everything is taken care of. You don’t even have to check your results because if you are lucky enough to win, the National Lottery will send you an email advising you and deposit your winnings straight into your account. With £millions worth of prizes going unclaimed each year, playing online is by far the best way to play the lottery.

All you need to know about how to win Lotto HotPicks

Introduced in February 2011 by The National Lottery, Lotto HotPicks is an add-on game linked to the main Lotto draw. Lotto HotPicks is an add-on game in so much that it doesn’t have its own draw. Results are determined by the Wednesday and Saturday main Lotto draws. In reality, it’s five add-on games not one. The objective of the game is to ‘pick’ 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, numbers that match those in the main Lotto draw.

If you choose to ‘pick’ 1 number and you do, then you win a set prize of £5. the odds against doing that are 9 to 1.

If you choose to ‘pick’ 3 numbers, you have to match all 3 to win a prize of £450. If you were to match only two having played ‘pick 3′, then you don’t win anything.

Play ‘pick 5′ and match all five and you win the £130,000 main prize. The odds against that happening are 317,814 to 1

These odds aren’t great but can be drastically reduced by having more entries into the Lotto draw. Great advice I hear you say, but what if I can’t afford more entries. Well that’s where we can help. Hard Time Shaking Anxiety? Try These Tips!

Simple anxiety about routine events is part of everyday life. But if you're experiencing a type of anxiety that starts to take over the things that you are doing, then you must gain control over it. Fortunately, there are ways to overcome the effects of anxiety. The advice shared here can help you overcome anxiety, and get back to a more peaceful life.

Try to keep moving throughout the day. If you are sitting at work, try to exercise on your break. Stand up frequently. When at home, keep busy, take a walk and cut down the amount of time sitting in front of the TV. While you do require relaxation and rest, too much of it triggers a cascade effect that can actually promote anxiety.

While a lot of people are anxious due to external factors, a lot of people have a genetic disposition to it. If you suspect you might be among them, perhaps you should seek the assistance of a professional who may be able to prescribe medication that would help.

Consider visiting a therapist. Also consider joining a support group so you can discuss treatment options and issues with others who are experiencing the same type of disorder. Speaking to a professional therapist is a great way to combat your anxiety.

Stay away from anyone that makes you nervous when you are afflicted with anxiety. You may feel this is an intuitive action, but it is common for those with anxiety to go out of their way to make others comfortable while ignoring their own needs. Being around individuals that make you uncomfortable would only cause you to have unnecessary stress that could worsen your anxiety.

There are various types of beverages that can be beneficial in dealing with anxiety. A cup of chamomile tea has been shown to lower stress levels and promote relaxation. Consider drinking some chamomile tea today and see if it reduces your feelings of anxiety.

You should focus on, not only your medical approach, but a natural one as well. Your physician can look over your personal affliction and prescribe or suggest specific medications. In a similar way, the natural approach such as changes in diet could prove to be a big difference. Anxiety sufferers who use multiple treatment options have generally been found to experience greater success in treating their problems.

A good way to lessen anxiety is by paying your bills on time. When you have to make late payments you may feel more stressed. That can make your anxiety even worse. Having your bills up to date can give you comfort throughout your week.

Although laughter may not be a complete cure, in the case of anxiety it can play an important part in helping you lessen the amount of anxiety you are feeling. Sit down to a humorous book or a comedy movie. You might even have a friend who is good for a laugh. With laughter you can find relief.

People with heart problems have no trouble speaking to a doctor about it. Likewise, people who have problems with anxiety should have no issues talking with a mental health professional. This is a different kind of medical problem, so it requires help from someone very experienced with it.

Alter the chemical make-up of your brain with exercise. Low serotonin could trigger anxiety, but having regular exercise could fix it. Doing things like taking a brisk walk, gardening, or a gym workout help to produce dopamine and serotonin in the brain, which are two things that cause you to feel relaxed. This does not only decrease anxiety, but it also decreases depression as well.

As previously mentioned, some anxiety in life is normal. However, if anxiety is crippling you to the point of impairing functionality in life, you must get ahead of it. The advice from the article above can help you do just that.

General Lottery Odds

The odds against winning a lottery jackpot prize differ with every lottery. The odds have nothing to do with the size of the jackpot, the price of the ticket or the number of tickets being bought. The odds are determined solely by how many numbers you have to select from, and how many you have to match.

For example:

The aim of the UK’s National Lottery Lotto draw is to pick 6 numbers from a possible 49. Those numbers then have to match the numbers drawn to win the jackpot. The odds in this instance are 1 in 13,983,816.

The aim of the pan-European EuroMillions lottery draw is to match 5 numbers from a possible 50, plus two lucky star numbers from a possible 11. The odds in this instance are 1 in 116,531,800

In the UK’s National Lottery Thunderball draw, the aim is to 5 numbers from a possible 39, plus one Thunderball number from a possible 14. The odds in this case are 1 in 8,060,598

As you can see, the odds are all different.

1 in 4 Lottery jackpots are won by a syndicate. The reason for that is probably because as a syndicate pool all the money from their members, they buy many more tickets. Each extra ticket they buy dramatically improves their chances of winning. For example, buy 1 ticket for the lotto draw and your chances of winning are 1 in 13,983,816. If you enter into a syndicate of 100 people, each of you spending £1, your odds of winning reduce to 1 in less than 700,000. You may win less as the winnings are split 100 ways, but you have many many many more chances to win.

Our tip would be to get as many entries into those large jackpot draws as possible. Even joining a syndicate of 100 people could win you a life changing amount of money. Sign up with Free National Lottery Tickets today and get yourself two free Lotto and EuroMillions tickets for the next draws

Know your Thunderball statistics, it may help you win.

The Thunderball lottery game introduced by the National Lottery in 1999 offers yet another twist on the already familiar lottery game, and of course more importantly, another chance to win a jackpot prize. Because the jackpot prize fund is much smaller than the Lotto prize fund, the jackpot prize is only £500,000, although the jackpot prize is guaranteed and comes with better odds than both the EuroMillions and Lotto games. For that reason, Thunderball has proved to be very popular.

The Thunderball draws take place every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday with the Wednesday and Saturday draws conveniently being televised live alongside the Lotto draws.

Thunderball is very straightforward to play. From a selection of 39 numbers you need to select 5. Then from a selection of 14, you have to select a ‘Thunderball’.

There are 9 levels of prizes to be won with a Thunderball ticket:

Match 0+ Thunderball to win £3

Match 1+ Thunderball to win £5

Match 2+ Thunderball to win £10

Match 3 to win £10

Match 3+ Thunderball to win £20

Match 4 to win £100

Match 4+ Thunderball to win £250

Match 5 to win £5,000

Match 5+ Thunderball to win £500,000

The most convenient way to buy tickets for Thunderball is to open an account with the National Lottery and buy your tickets online. Not only is it easy, but you can set up a continuous ticket or tickets that mean you never have to miss a draw again. If you’re not sure which numbers to select, you can chose a lucky dip, or, if you like a little bit more control than that, why not let our Thunderball Number Generator choose the numbers for you. If you don’t like what it throws up, simply try again. The National Lottery will call off funds from your bank account monthly to pay for your tickets and thereafter everything is taken care off. You don’t even have to check your results because if you are lucky enough to win, the national Lottery will send you an email advising you and deposit your winnings straight into your account. With £millions worth of prizes going unclaimed each year, playing online is by far the best way to play the lottery.

The chances of winning a Thunderball jackpot

Thunderball, run by the National Lottery was launched in 1999. Originally the draw took place only on a Saturday. Now there is a Thunderball draw 3 times each week on Wednesday’s, Friday’s and Saturday’s.
With fewer players taking part, the Thunderball jackpot prizes are smaller than those for EuroMillions and Lotto. The jackpot prize is only £500,000 but has the advantage of being a guaranteed prize.
The aim of the game is to select 5 main numbers from a possible 39, plus one ‘Thunderball’ number from a possible 14. With fewer numbers to choose from, the odds against winning one of the 9 tiers of prizes are far lower than the odds for the EuroMillions and Lotto draws.

The odds against winning any of the 13 prize levels are coincidently 1 in 13. These are far better than the overall odds of winning a prize in the Lotto game. Although the odds against winning a jackpot on the Lotto game are a relatively short 14 million to 1, the odds against winning any prize are 1 in 52.665. Essentially, if you play the Lotto game as opposed to EuroMillions you’re more likely to win a jackpot but less likely to win one of the smaller prizes.

The booster fund was introduced in May 2011. It is used to booster jackpot prizes to generate more interest in the draw and therefore encourage better ticket sales.

Whilst these odds aren’t great, there is a way you can greatly improve them at no extra cost.

FreeNationalLotteryTickets gives its members the opportunity to get free tickets in the National Lottery Lotto and EuroMillions draw, not only for one week, but for every week. Have you signed up yet?

The odds on winning a EuroMillions jackpot

EuroMillions is a pan-European lottery launched in 2004. The first draw took place on Friday 13th February 2004 in Paris.

To play you need to select 5 numbers from 1-50 and two lucky stars from 1-11

The tickets in the UK cost £2 each and each ticket gains you one entry into the Millionaire Raffle drawn from the UK ticket holders.

Draws take place every Tuesday and Friday night in Paris.

Anyone 16 or over living in one of the participating countries (Austria, Belgium, France, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom) is entitled to take part.

The odds against winning the jackpot are 1 in 116,531,800.

The odds against winning any of the 13 prize levels are coincidentally 1 in 13.

The odds against getting none of the main 50 balls, but both of the lucky star balls are 1 in 95. But getting them wouldn’t do you any good as there isn’t a prize for just getting the two lucky star balls.

If not won, the jackpot can rollover as many times as it takes to reach €185 million. Once the jackpot figure reaches or exceeds €185 million, the prize if not won again is distributed amongst those with the next lower prize tier of 5 numbers and 1 lucky star.

EuroMillions also have Super Draws and Event Draws. These are special draws where the jackpot is set at a certain amount regardless of the normal expected jackpot. These jackpots can sometimes be as high as£100 million.

With a Super Draw, the winnings are rolled over if not won, whereas with an event draw, the winnings are shared amongst the winners of the next lowest tier if not won.

The first Super Draw in 2011 took place on May 10th as an introduction to the new Tuesday EuroMillions draw that began on that date.

A ticket for EuroMillions in the UK cost £2 opposed the €2 throughout the rest of Europe. To make up for the difference in cost in the UK there is also an additional prize of a Millionaire Raffle. For every EuroMillions ticket you buy in the UK there is a Millionaire Raffle number printed below your numbers. These  numbers are all added to the raffle where one winning ticket is drawn. On occasions Camelot add extra Millionaire Raffle prizes to particular draws. This is often on special occasions such as Christmas.

The largest Jackpot ever won by someone in the UK on EuroMillions was won on Tuesday 12th July 2011 in Draw Number 397. The winners, Christine and Colin Weir, a couple from Largs in Scotland won the a jaw dropping jackpot of  £161,653,000.

Millionaire Raffle Odds

The Millionaire Raffle is linked to the EuroMillions draws that take place every Tuesday and Friday.
Every EuroMillions line that is purchased in the UK comes with a Millionaire Raffle number. The unique number is 9 digits long, made up of 3 letter and 6 numbers. For example ABC123456

One Millionaire Raffle number is drawn with each EuroMillions draw. The £1 million prize is guaranteed and as each ticket is unique, the prize is never shared.

Unlike with the lottery, you cannot choose your own Millionaire Raffle numbers. But the numbers you are given are not important as they are not relative to the draw. It’s like pulling a ticket out of a hat, it could be a number, or your name that was on the ticket, all that’s important is that it was picked.

Whilst the odds for winning the EuroMillions or Lotto draws remain constant, the odds against winning Millionaire Raffle change with each draw dependant on the number of tickets purchased. The more tickets purchased, the greater the odds against winning.

Typically for each draw, between 5 & 6 million EuroMillions tickets are sold. This goes up with special draws and rollover draws. So your odds will be around 1 in 6,000,000.

These odds aren’t great but can be drastically reduced by having more entries into the EuroMillions draw. Sign up to Free National Lottery Tickets and find out how you can get free lottery tickets into all the Lotto and EuroMillions draws.

On some special occasions, Camelot who operate the EuroMillions game in the UK add extra prizes to the Millionaire Raffle. In November and December 2011 they added an extra  41 prizes of £1 million, making a total of 50 Christmas millionaires. For the EuroMillions draw two days before Christmas day there were 25 Millionaire Raffle prizes drawn, making it a very special Christmas for a lot of people.

What Is Lottery Wheeling?

Lottery wheeling is a method of arranging lottery ticket numbers that it is said, will improve your chances of winning a lottery prize. Aimed at players who choose to buy multiple tickets, wheeling uses mathematical formulas that generates tables of numbers that will give a player, or syndicate, full or partial coverage of every conceivable combination of numbers that they select.

For example, wheeling would tell you how to arrange your numbers if you wanted to select 15 numbers in the Lotto game in such a way so that as long as 6 of those 15 numbers came up, you would be guaranteed to have 3 numbers on one lottery ticket. Whilst that sounds like a good guarantee, the odds against those numbers coming up are no greater than if you spent the same amount of money on Lotto lucky dip numbers.

The only true benefit from using the wheeling method is that you will be buy multiple lotterytickets, and that in itself will reduce the odds against winning. Buying 1 ticket for a Lotto draw will give you odds of 1 in almost 14 million of winning the jackpot. Buying 10 tickets reduces those odds to 1 in almost 1.4 million. That alone is the only definable benefit from wheeling. Nevertheless, if someone uses the wheeling method and wins a major prize, then they will of course believe in the system. What we can say is that your odds against winning are certainly no less by using the system than they are by not using it. So it’s everyone to their own.

Lottery Systems

There are other lottery systems that people claim give then an advantage over most lottery players. One such system won this syndicate a jackpot of over £5m. Find out how they did it.

Cooking 101: Everything You Need To Know

Do you remember the last time you ate out and wondered how they made such delicious food? Have you ever tried to replicate that meal at home? Is cooking at home a bit of a lottery for you? Apply the following insights to educate yourself in preparing your favorite dishes in addition to new discoveries. People from all walks of life enjoy the fun and relaxation of cooking.

If you want to add flavor to your dishes, use a liquid other than milk or water. Use chicken broth, beef stock or vegetable broth instead. Some great replacements for milk are sour cream, yogurt and buttermilk. A good method for increasing your nutritional intake is by increasing the amount of liquids you drink throughout the day.

Always measure the amount of cooking oil you use. Measure how much oil you use to make your dish less rich in fat. Do not simply pour the oil directly in the pan. This will give you the ability to know exactly how much oil is going into the pan at a time.

Air tends to turn fresh fruits like avocados, apples and pears brown. You can prevent this from happening by lightly coating the fruit with lemon juice or salt water. However, the most flavorful way to stop fruit from browning is to dip it in pineapple juice. As a rapid dip will suffice, you don't need to immerse the fruit.

Hold off on using too many spices until your meal is served. Spices, such as red pepper, garlic, or salt, are excellent for flavoring, but don't necessarily need to be used during the meal's preparation. Let people choose their spices so that they do not waste your delicious food. Instead of putting them on your food let the people eating choose. This way, everyone can make the dish truly theirs.

Whenever you have cooked a whole turkey, never throw away your leftovers. You can put them in meal-size containers and keep them in the freezer. This will keep the turkey fresh for a month or more, and can be easily thawed to use in sandwiches, soups, and salads.

Always read the labels of what you buy. Though they seem innocent enough, many of the components of everyday cooking items can be loaded with secret things that hinder your overall health. Too much salt, sugar, and those dreaded unpronounceable chemicals can really alter the flavors of dishes and be generally unhealthy for you.

If you don't know much about the vegetable or fruit that you are handling, familiarize yourself with it. You may be surprised, with a little research, at the versatility of a new food. If you take the time to learn about the item before heading into the kitchen, the experience will be that much more enjoyable.

You can use leftover vegetables and meats to create a delicious fried rice mixture. Rice from the day before is the best choice, but if you have to make it fresh, use less water for drier rice. First, use a small amount of oil to fry the meat and vegetables. Next, add the rice to the mixture and use soy sauce, ginger and garlic according to your taste preferences.

Tying up your turkey is called trussing. This prevents the legs and wings from moving too far away from the main body, which can cause it to cook unevenly. If you don't truss your bird, the smaller pieces could dry out and burn.

If you are looking for a quick, easy and effective solution to changing up what you cook, experiment with new spices or sauces to add a little pizzazz to your dishes. If you throw in some new spices or add various sauces to marinate, the taste of your meal can significantly change. A great place to find a variety of lesser-known sauces and spices is at an ethnic food store.

To some people, cooking is just something you need to know how to do or an interesting hobby. To others, it's a way of making money. With food, the possibilities are limitless. Learn something new by studying the habits and recipes of the people who know cooking best and are willing to share that knowledge. So, the next time have control of your kitchen and a potentially fabulous meal, refer to these tips for some inspiration!

A guide to setting up a lottery syndicate

Reasons To Set Up A Syndicate

1. In the UK, 1 in 4 Lotto jackpots are won by syndicated tickets.

2. If you spent £10 on Lotto tickets for one draw, you would reduce your odds against winning the jackpot from 14 million to 1 to 1.4 million to 1. If you joined a syndicate of 20 people and spend the same £10, your odds against winning the jackpot would reduce from 1.4 million to one to 70,000 to 1. Even with a reduced share of the jackpot, the chances of winning are much more favourable.

Steps To Setting Up A Syndicate

1. Decide who is going to take part in the syndicate. There is no limit to the number of players that can join a syndicate.

2. Decide how much each member of the syndicate contributes to each draw. It’s not uncommon to have syndicates where members contribute differing amounts. The share of any winnings would obviously be split accordingly.

3. Agree in advance whether or not you are going to go public in the event of a win. This will save and disagreements later.

4. Decide which draws you are entering and the numbers you will be using.

5. Decide when payments are due by and what happens if a member fails to pay on time

6. Agree a procedure for what to do if someone leaves or you allow someone to join your syndicate.

7. A start and end date for the syndicate.

8. The next step is to select your ‘Syndicate Manager’ who will be responsible for collecting the money,
buying the tickets, keeping the tickets in a safe place and checking the results. With online banking so accessible nowadays, members could set up regular standing orders to pay the manager their share.

9. You will also need to appoint a ‘Deputy Syndicate Manager’ who can take over the responsibilities of the manager in the event of holidays or illness etc.

10. Decide what to do with any smaller winnings you have.

11. Draw up a syndicate agreement stating all that you have agreed and give all the syndicate members a copy.

Now you have a syndicate, read how the system this syndicate used won them a lottery jackpot!

What to do if you win the lottery

Someone’s got to win the lottery, so why not you? You never know when or how you might find out if you’ve won. You could be watching the draw live at home on your own, or get the results online at FreeNationalLotteryTickets. With both those examples you would be in control of who knew about your win. But, if you handed your ticket to a lottery retailer and ask them to check it for you, that control would have gone. Obviously the retailer would blurt out the fact that you had won letting everyone else within earshot hear. In that scenario, your chance of choosing ‘no publicity’ has already gone.

It’s a good idea to be prepared for winning. Having a plan for how you are going to act in the first few hours after discovering that you had won, will go a long way to helping you retain control of your own destiny. Here is our top 5 tips for how to react to a lottery win.

1. Keep Calm
Winning a lottery jackpot is a life changing event, which is why we all play. It is totally natural to want to ‘tell the world’ about your news if you were to win, but if you were to do so immediately upon finding out you’d won, you may well regret it. Our advice would be to keep calm and tell only your closest and dearest at first. This doesn’t mean that you won’t tell everyone else at a later date or that you won’t go public. What it does, is give you time to consider all the options and make the decision with a clear head once all the euphoria of winning has waned somewhat. Just remember that if you decide on no publicity, you can change your mind at any time in the future and tell whoever you want about your win. But if you decide on publicity, once the story has got out, you can never change your mind.

2. Claim Right Away

Often, winners decide to hold on to their winning ticket for a few days or even weeks before making their claim. They do this to give themselves a chance to let the reality of this life changing event sink in. Our tip would be to make the claim and get your win validated by Camelot as soon as you possibly can. The early you do this the less chance there is that you could mislay your ticket. It’s worth remembering that if you purchased your ticket over the counter at a lottery retailer and lost it, whoever finds the ticket could make the claim and collect the winnings. Read our tips on Unclaimed Lottery Prizes

3. Going Public

Before deciding on whether you should opt for publicity or not, you need to understand the repercussions of such a decision. The press will want to know as much about you and your past as possible, and it wouldn’t be hard for them to find someone out there from your past who will bad mouth you over something or other. Be prepared for sack fulls of begging letter where it is impossible to distinguish the genuine from the fake. Be aware that from that moment onwards, you will always be known as the one or the couple that won the lottery.

4. Get Professional Advice

All lottery winners are offered initial financial advice and support by The National Lottery operators Camelot, but you will require ongoing investment a tax advice in the years to come. Managing a large pot of money in order to gain maximum returns requires an expert. As well as investment advice, you will also need advice on pensions, inheritance, tax and drawing up a new will. Of course you are not obliged to take this advice, but you should know that there are many stories of past lottery winners who didn’t take any advice and soon ended up wasting their winnings away until they had gone completely.

5. Don’t Let It Ruin Your Life

Whilst winning a lottery jackpot is life changing, it doesn’t necessarily have to change everything. You should aim to keep what’s good in your life like friends, interests and hobbies. It’s likely that you will want to give up work, but take time to plan hat you will do with your time if you did. You don’t want to end up rattling around a big house bored and unhappy. Like anything else in this life, you have to work at something to get the best out of it. Think about something you always dreamed of doing and make it a reality. Learn to fly, or play an instrument or learn a new language. Whatever you do, enjoy life remembering that no matter how much money you have, you only get out of life what you put into it.
