The chances of winning a Thunderball jackpot

Thunderball, run by the National Lottery was launched in 1999. Originally the draw took place only on a Saturday. Now there is a Thunderball draw 3 times each week on Wednesday’s, Friday’s and Saturday’s.
With fewer players taking part, the Thunderball jackpot prizes are smaller than those for EuroMillions and Lotto. The jackpot prize is only £500,000 but has the advantage of being a guaranteed prize.
The aim of the game is to select 5 main numbers from a possible 39, plus one ‘Thunderball’ number from a possible 14. With fewer numbers to choose from, the odds against winning one of the 9 tiers of prizes are far lower than the odds for the EuroMillions and Lotto draws.
